How teams battle it out across different formats
Within a federation, teams compete in Competitions. Fantasy Squad supports two scoring styles: match-based (each matchday your team plays a 1v1 fantasy match, with scores converted to goals) and points-based (teams are ranked by raw fantasy score without head-to-head fixtures). Both can be combined with different competition structures.
The classic full-season format. Every team plays against every other team home and away across the full season. The team with the best record at the end wins the league title. Scoring can be match-based (1v1 each matchday) or total-points-based.
Best for: Groups who want a full competitive season with a clear champion crowned over time.
A knockout tournament where one loss means elimination. Every match is high-stakes — there's no room for error. The last team standing wins the Cup.
Best for: High-drama, winner-takes-all excitement. Great as a side competition.
The most complete format: group stages followed by knockout rounds. Teams battle through their group first, then the top teams advance to the knockout phase.
Best for: Larger federations (8+ teams) who want a full competition structure like a real tournament.
A points-based format where teams are ranked by their raw fantasy score each matchday — no head-to-head matches. Think of it like a Formula 1 season: each round you earn points based on your rank, and they accumulate throughout the season.
Best for: Groups wanting a standings-based competition without fixture scheduling. Ideal for second competitions alongside a main league.
The simplest points-based format. Teams are ranked purely by their cumulative raw fantasy score across all matchdays — no conversion, no brackets, no fixtures. The highest total wins.
Best for: Quick side competitions or situations where you want a pure, unambiguous ranking by performance alone.
Can you run multiple competitions?
Yes! A federation can run multiple competitions simultaneously — for example, a League for the main title race and a Cup or Grand Prix for mid-season excitement, just like in real football.
